Firefly Festival 2021 Backstage Pass with Kyle McMahon: Firefly Festival 2021 Day 1 Is Very Wet, Still Brings The Good Times
Firefly Music Festival 2021 is finally here. After a delay of a year and a half, the East Coast's biggest music festival kicked off with a few hour delay due to the nasty monsoon like weather that suddenly hit Dover, Delaware. While thousands of fans had begun their Firefly experience camping Wednesday night, a majority of the tens of thousands of fans began their Firefly 2021 fun Thursday. That is, until the sky opened up dumping nearly two inches of water in just a couple of hours, with lightning striking regularly. That turn of events caused everything to shut down, putting eager fans on hold until it was safe to reopen entrance gates and check-ins.
After 27 months since the 2019 Firefly Music Festival, most fans were fine with waiting a few more hours before checking in to their favorite 4 day music festival. Some choose to wait it out in their cars, others hunkered down at the closest structure while others overwhelmed local establishments until word was given that Firefly could safely reopen. By 3pm, a social media post by Firefly noted that the gates would open at 7:30p with a number of artists getting pushed to later in the evening.
By 10pm, Phoebe Bridgers was the first artist to bring the masses to the stage as she kicked off a set to tens of thousands of happy - though wet - fans ready to see live music once again. The crowd went wild as the talented musician hit the stage in a beautiful black suit, guitar in hand. She sleekly sailed through her set while the crowd ate up every note.
Shortly after Bridgers primed the appetite of tens of thousands of people, Billie Eilish took the stage to an absolutely insane crowd who joyously bopped to every song by the young hitmaker. Playing through until well after 12:30 in the morning, Eilish electrified the audience, jumping up and down in the muddy field.
While it's been too long since we've been able to enjoy live music, the artists of Day 1 of the Firefly Music Festival 2021, Bridgers and Eilish in particular, made the mud, rain and the wait more than worth it.
