Grab A Ruler: How Much Snow Did We Get?

Our winter storm has blanketed central Pennsylvania with nearly a foot of snow in some areas, as residents across the Midstate region continue digging out on Monday (January 26).

In Berks County, Spring Township recorded nine inches of snowfall while West Reading saw ten inches. Lancaster County reported varying amounts, with East Hempfield Township measuring 9 inches, Akron recording 8.8 inches, and Ephrata Borough seeing 8 inches, according to the National Weather Service in State College.

Denver, Pennsylvania received just over a foot of snow, while Harrisburg reported more than 11 inches. York County also saw significant accumulation as the storm swept through the region.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Midstate through 1 p.m. Monday, as forecasters warn that travel conditions remain hazardous in many areas.

The storm, which began overnight Saturday into Sunday, brought snowfall rates that sometimes exceeded 1-2 inches per hour. CBS21 reported that south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, snow mixed with sleet or freezing rain Sunday afternoon, reducing snow totals in some areas.

Governor Josh Shapiro signed a disaster declaration ahead of the storm, and PennDOT implemented vehicle restrictions across the state. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board closed all Fine Wine & Good Spirits locations on Sunday, and PennDOT announced that all driver license and photo centers would remain closed Monday and Tuesday.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, keep devices charged, and ensure they have enough food and water to last several days.

Arctic air is expected to remain in the region following the storm, with real-feel temperatures possibly dropping below zero, especially during evening hours.
