Central Pennsylvania native Shane Gillis will host the 2025 ESPYS, set to take place on Wednesday (July 16) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Gillis, a comedian, actor, and writer, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, "I like sports so this should be a good time." The ESPYS, presented by Capital One, will air live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and stream on ESPN+.
Gillis, who hails from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is known for his stand-up comedy and his Netflix show 'Tires,' which recently returned for a second season. He is also a co-host of 'Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,' the top-ranked Patreon podcast globally. According to ESPN, Gillis is currently on an international comedy tour, breaking records in 18 arenas.
ESPN Vice President Craig Lazarus praised Gillis, saying, "Shane is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host The ESPYS." The awards will celebrate major sports achievements and unforgettable moments from the past year.
Gillis, a former college football player and avid Notre Dame fan, has been involved in various ESPN projects, including appearances on College Football GameDay. His comedic style, often described as "anti-woke," has earned him a diverse fan base. The ESPYS will also be available for streaming on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ the day after the live broadcast.
