Peach Bottom To Conduct Siren Test Next Week

The Peach Bottom Clean Energy Center in York County, Pennsylvania, will conduct its semi-annual siren test on Wednesday (June 4) at 1 p.m. Residents in southeastern York, southwestern Lancaster counties, and parts of Maryland may hear the sirens. The facility, previously known as the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, has 97 sirens within a ten-mile radius.

The sirens are not a signal to evacuate. Instead, they alert residents to tune into local Emergency Alert System (EAS) broadcasts on television or radio for further information. The sirens are part of a comprehensive emergency warning system managed by York County emergency management authorities.

The test is one of two conducted each year to ensure the system's functionality and readiness. The Peach Bottom Clean Energy Center is located on the bank of Conowingo Pond in Peach Bottom Township.

Residents who might not respond to the sirens due to impaired hearing or other factors are advised to contact the Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency for special alerting accommodations, as noted by the Lancaster County Government.
