It turns out Katy Perry is the muse behind one of Britney Spears' biggest hits. Songwriter Bonnie McKee took to TikTok on Wednesday (September 15) to reveal the true story about how 'Hold It Against Me' came to be.

A few years back, McKee was simultaneously working with Perry and Spears on new music. Perry was putting together her mainstream breakout album Teenage Dream, while Spears was working on her seventh album Femme Fatale. McKee had a melody she liked for one of Spears' songs, however, she couldn't find the right lyrics. But then one day, Perry walked into the studio and inadvertently inspired McKee.

"Katy Perry walked in, and she looked bomb as f—k," McKee recalled. "I was like, 'Damn Katy, if I told you had had a nice body, would you hold it against me?' And then I was like... 'I gotta go.'"

McKee said once she had the concept, the song "kind of just wrote itself." She then showed the notebook she first wrote down the memorable chorus, which we now know was inspired by Perry:

If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
'Cause you feel like paradise
And I need a vacation tonight
So, if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?

McKee's TikTok is full of anecdotes about how some of the most famous pop songs of our time came to be. The prolific songwriter has worked with Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Cher, Christian Aguilera, and more.
