Pennsylvania-based retail chain Weis Markets announced Wednesday that it would begin vaccinating patients in 55 of its in-store pharmacies starting January 21.

The supermarket chain cited Center for Disease Control guidelines and state Health Department guidance to begin vaccinating patients aged 65 or older.

Those eligible for a vaccine can schedule an appointment on Weis Market's website.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- New COVID-19 cases are increasing in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported almost six-thousand new cases yesterday. There are currently more than 4,500 people who are hospitalized in the state with the virus.  

401 more people also passed away due to complications of COVID-19.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Child care workers in Pennsylvania are going to be rewarded by the state for their services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Tom Wolf announced yesterday that employees of licensed child care companies will be eligible for a one-time grant worth $600. The money is being provided by a federal government program and could give out grants to more than 33,000 child care workers in the state. Officials of Wolf's administration say that all applications must be submitted to local early learning resource centers and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

>>Harrisburg Area Community College to Launch New Online Program

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Harrisburg Area Community College is going to be launching a new online program for healthcare workers. The college announced yesterday that it will be launching a fully-virtual, 120-hour Community Health Worker Program. The program will feature lecture and clinical opportunities that will cover six major areas including health care, social services, communication skills and health education. It is accredited through the Pennsylvania Certification Board. Officials say classes are scheduled to begin February 9th.

>>Washington Township Transferring to Northern York County School District

(Washington Township, PA) -- About 220 students in Washington Township are going to be transferring to the Northern York County School District. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld a 2020 Commonwealth Court ruling yesterday that will allow Washington Township to secede from Dover Area School District. The Washington Township Education Coalition originally filed a petition to transfer in 2012. Northern York County School District officials say they are working with Dover Area School District to create a transition plan for the township.

(York, PA) -- York Police are investigating a shooting that critically injured one man. The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue. Police say they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach. Anyone with any information on the shooting is being asked to contact the York City Police Tip Line.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Investigators are identifying the man killed in a Harrisburg fire last weekend. Jay Ross was found inside the home on the 1,400-block of North 15th Street in Uptown Harrisburg Sunday night. The 69-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene while another person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

(York, PA) -- The Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission is awarding York Railway $2 million. The funds will be used to pay for a mile of new track and perform safety upgrades at ten crossings. One of those crossings is at Roosevelt Avenue.

(York, PA) -- A 34-year-old man is in custody for a deadly shooting in York. Jerrod Scott was arrested Tuesday afternoon on the 600-block of Company Street in York and faces third-degree murder, robbery, and other charges. He was found with crack cocaine at the time of his arrest, according to police.

(Fairview Twp., PA) -- A man is dead after a tractor trailer crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Fairview Township, York County yesterday morning. It happened near the Spangler’s Mill Road overpass where the truck left the roadway and hit the bridge barrier. The driver’s identity hasn’t been released.

(Reading, PA) -- Reading School District is going to get a lot of help from the new round of COVID-19 relief funding. The school board announced yesterday that it is expecting to get almost 52-million-dollars from the state. Board members say they will be working on plans for the next several months on how the district will use the new funds. The district will get more information on the COVID-19 relief when Governor Wolf presents his proposed state budget on February 2nd.

>>Berks County Man Accused Of Murder Also Charged For 2019 Burglary

(Bern Township, PA) -- A man who is already behind bars for allegedly killing a U.S. Air Force veteran in Berks County is also being charged for a 2019 burglary. Raphael Perez Rodriguez is being accused of robbing a house on South Tulpehocken Road in Bern Township in June of 2019. Officials say that DNA collected from the robbery scene matched with DNA that was collected from another incident that involved Rodriguez breaking into a funeral home and shooting at an officer last year. He is being accused of stabbing a man to death just a month after attacking the officer at the funeral home.

(Reading, PA) -- Police are investigating a shooting in the city of Reading. The shooting happened last night in the 13-hundred-block of Hampden Boulevard. Police say a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach was found on the scene. The Reading coroner reported to the scene as well, but the man's condition is currently unknown.

>>One-Million-Dollar Winning Lottery Ticket Sold In Lancaster County

(Bainbridge, PA) -- A lucky person in Lancaster County is going to be a lot richer. The Pennsylvania Lottery announced yesterday that a winning ticket worth one-million-dollars was sold at Gingrich's Food Market in Bainbridge. The store will be receiving a five-thousand-dollar bonus for selling the ticket. The lucky winner is being told to sign the back of the ticket and to contact the nearest lottery office to claim their prize.

(Rockland Township, PA) -- A smokehouse worth about five-thousand-dollars in Rockland Township is now destroyed after it caught on fire. The fire occurred yesterday morning in the first-block of Hertzog School Road. The eight-foot-by-eight-food wooden building was completely engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. Officials say that burning embers left behind in the smokehouse caused the fire. No injuries were reported.

Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti says the city is lucky to have a president from the Electric City as he will keep families, businesses, infrastructure issues and financial issues from Scranton on the top of his mind. >>Update: Monroe County Shooting Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

(Stroud Township, PA) -- The homeowner who called police after a shooting in Monroe County Tuesday night that left one man dead and a woman injured is facing a homicide charge. Police say Randy Halterman told them he heard a noise from inside his Paradise Trail home, which he thought was an animal until he heard talking. He then grabbed his handgun and began firing multiple shots at the intruders, killing a man and injuring a woman. Authorities say defending your property does not justify the use of force. Halterman reportedly told police he kept shooting because he didn't want them to get away. He is currently facing charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

>>Officials Ask For Patience As Vaccine Rolls Out

(Harrisburg, PA) -- State health officials are asking the public to remain patient as millions of people went online to schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Officials say they do not have enough vaccine for everyone that wants it right now but will have more in the future. They added that the state asked the federal government for the maximum allotment of COVID vaccines available, and the state is receiving a steady flow of about 140,000 doses per week. This comes as eligibility to receive the vaccine was expanded to individuals older than 65 and younger adults with chronic medical conditions.
