Every year on September 11, Americans pause to remember one of the most significant and heartbreaking days in our nation's history. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people and forever changed the United States and the world.

On that clear September morning, four commercial airplanes were hijacked by terrorists. Two planes struck the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse. A third plane hit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after courageous passengers fought to regain control of the plane and prevent further destruction.

As we remember 9/11, we honor not only those who lost their lives, but also the extraordinary courage displayed in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and countless ordinary citizens risked their own lives to help others. Their bravery remains an enduring example of service, sacrifice, and resilience.

For Pennsylvanians, the events of that day hold a particularly personal significance. The heroes aboard Flight 93 demonstrated remarkable courage, making a sacrifice that likely saved countless lives. Their actions continue to inspire generations and remind us of the power of unity and determination.

Memorial ceremonies held across the country each year ensure that the stories of those lost are never forgotten. Bells toll, flags are lowered, moments of silence are observed, and communities gather together to reflect on the importance of remembrance. These traditions help preserve the memory of those affected and teach future generations about the lasting impact of that day.

Twenty-five years later, the lessons of September 11 remain relevant. The attacks showed the strength of the American spirit and the ability of communities to come together during times of crisis. They reminded us of the importance of compassion, service, and standing united in the face of adversity.

Today, we remember the victims, honor the heroes, and express gratitude to all first responders who continue to protect our communities. May we never forget the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the resilience that emerged from one of the darkest days in American history.
