Hempfield High Switches to Full Virtual Learning for Tuesday and Wednesday

At this time, and based on additional case-related information, HHS will transition from in-person instruction to full virtual instruction for Tuesday, January 26 and Wednesday, January 27. HHS students should NOT report to the school building on Tuesday or Wednesday. All students will follow their normal school schedule from home and report to their live classes via Google Meet. Teachers will share the Google Meet links in Schoology.

If you attend LCCTC (full day), TBC cottage, LEC, or a non-public school, Hempfield buses will still be available to take you to those locations. Half day CTC students will need to provide their own ride to/from the high school shuttle location.

In the event that inclement weather dictates a 2-hour delay tomorrow - Tuesday, January 26, the high school will operate on a 2-hour delay schedule with all classes being held virtually. In the event that inclement weather closes the district tomorrow - Tuesday, January 26 - this will become a Snow Day, and students should not report to virtual class. This snow day is already built into the2020-21 school year calendar. Regardless of the impact of weather on Tuesday, HHS will still be closed to students for in-person learning on Wednesday, January 27.

Individual athletic coaches will communicate with student-athletes about practices and competitions. If practices and/or competitions are being held at off-site locations, these may continue as scheduled. No practices and/or competitions are permitted to be held at HHS during this temporary closure.

This switch to full virtual instruction will allow our custodial team to conduct additional cleaning and disinfection. We have already conducted contact tracing for these COVID+ cases. If your student was identified as a close contact of a COVID+ individual, you would have already been contacted by a HHS School Nurse.

HHS students will return to in-person instruction on Thursday, January 28. Once the school building reopens for in-person instruction, the case count will reset to zero and the 14-day rolling period will begin again when there is a reportable COVID+ case in the building. As a reminder, a COVID+ case that is part of the 14-day rolling count for a school building includes any individual (students or staff) with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 who wasphysically present in the school setting while infectious, including but not limited to, instruction, work, sports, or extracurricular activities.

We thank you for your support and for your attention to continued mitigation efforts, including wearing a facial covering, frequent hand washing, and maintaining social distancing.
