YouTube Rewind 2018 Becomes Second-Most Disliked Video Behind Justin Bieber

"YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind" has racked up more than 7.6 million dislikes, making it the streaming platform's second-most disliked clip ever behind Justin Bieber's video for "Baby" (9.7 million dislikes).

Clocking in at eight minutes, the montage-like video features a number of the platform's beloved stars like Casey Neistat, Lilly Singh, and Liza Koshy in set-ups surrounding this year's trends, viral moments and basically anything the YouTube CEOs found noteworthy. However, the big issue falls on the considerable absence from platform stars like Jake and Logan Paul, KSI, David Dobrik, Shane Dawson, Erika Costell and, most notably, PewDiePie. For the second year in a row, PewDiePie was not asked to participate in this round-up video. At time of press, those choices had clearly disappointed the 7.6 million users who decided to give the video a thumbs down compared to the two million that gave the upload a thumbs up. Scroll through the top liked comments underneath the clip and you'll see just how poorly received the video was.

As Forbes noted, the video falls flat mainly because the montage focuses on what YouTube wants advertisers to think about the video community more than the YouTube community itself. On a plus side, this year's installment does excel at exemplifying how the platform is much more than just an American-based streaming source, but instead a worldwide community full of diversity from its creators and users.
